POSH Graffiti Large Gilded Gold Wooden I
This large, hand-carved wooden I is hand gilded with gold metal leaf. The upper surface has a gold finish and the wooden letter is beveled but the back is flat and the surface is slightly rough. They are light enough to attach to a wall using good heavy duty adhesive pads, Velcro tape or a suitable adhesive or they can be secured with nails using a similar method to hanging a plate
They make smart gilded wooden monograms and personalised gifts and look great on a feature wall. If used for exterior signage they require an extra coat of waterproof varnish, front and back, before fixing.
The POSH Graffiti Old English letter font is an original design by Emily Readett-Bayley based on the Caslon Old Face font and is handmade by artisan woodcarvers in Bali with whom we have worked for over 25 years.
The letters are packed at source in a cardboard POSH Graffiti box and posted to the customer in the same box to avoid wasteful packaging. No plastic is used. They are designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

The POSH Graffiti Old English wall letters are created by British designer Emily Readett-Bayley and a group of highly skilled woodcarvers and painters on the Indonesian island of Bali with whom we have worked for over 25 years. The artisans are part of an ancient rice farming community who cultivate Albizia trees around their rice fields to provide a sustainable wood source. The men and women use traditional artisan skills passed down from generation to generation to create their woodcarvings. Albizia is a hardwood but as it grows very fast it has a wide grain and is soft and light. The woodcarvers are masters at shaping the wood with a knife and sanding it smooth. Once the wood is smooth it is coated with a layer of white plaster ready for painting and gilding. Hand gilding wood takes great skill but it is this that gives our gold and silver wooden letters their distinctive look and superior shine.

The craft industry provides an important secondary income to many people living in this rural farming community and uses the same agrarian labour sharing principles. This enables men and women to work the land and use their traditional artisan craft skills to earn a living.
Other designers and importers on the island manufacture with cheaper wood composites such as MDF but we never ask our craftspeople to use these because they produce dangerous carcinogenic dust during the cutting process and expensive, hi-tech safety measures are required which are not generally used in a traditional craft workshop.
